Drug family: Antibiotic of the penicillin family
WHEN IS AUGMENTIN ORAL SUSPENSION AND TABLET PRESCRIBED?
This medicine contains an antibiotic that belongs to the extended-spectrum penicillin family, i.e. active on a greater number of germs than simple penicillin. The addition of clavulanic acid prevents the destruction of amoxicillin by certain bacteria.

It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including those of the ears and sinuses, respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, teeth, bones and joints.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF AUGMENTIN ORAL SUSPENSION AND TABLET
This medicine should not be used in the following cases:
Allergy to penicillins or cephalosporins,

history of jaundice or hepatitis when taking a drug containing amoxicillin + clavulanic acid (AUGMENTIN and generics)

phenylketonuria (powders for oral suspension: presence of aspartam).

CAUTION
Any allergic reaction (pimples, swelling, discomfort) must be stopped. Consult your doctor quickly. Remember to report any history of allergy to antibiotics of the beta-lactam family (penicillins and cephalosporins). It contraindicates the use of this medication.

If extensive redness of the skin with blistering and fever occurs at the beginning of treatment, do not continue treatment and seek urgent medical advice.

Many antibiotics can cause loose stools or diarrhea, which is usually mild. However, significant diarrhea during or within days of antibiotic treatment should be reported to your doctor.

Precautions are necessary in cases of renal failure, liver failure or infectious mononucleosis.

A decrease in fever or disappearance of symptoms does not mean a cure: the duration of treatment must be respected to avoid relapses or the appearance of resistance to the antibiotic.

Amoxicillin may interfere with some medical test results; inform your laboratory of the antibiotic treatment.

Caution: driverDriver: in rare cases, this drug causes effects (allergic reaction, dizziness, convulsions) that may constitute a risk for driving or operating dangerous machinery.

INTERACTIONS OF AUGMENTIN ORAL SUSPENSION AND TABLET WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES
Tell your doctor if you are taking an oral anticoagulant or a drug containing methotrexate, allopurinol or probenecid.

FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
PREGNANCY:
No adverse effects on the unborn child have been established with this drug. It may be prescribed during pregnancy.

BREASTFEEDING:
This drug passes into breast milk; continued breastfeeding is possible, but any symptoms occurring in the infant should be reported to the doctor: thrush, rash ... that may reflect an intolerance or allergy.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE OF AUGMENTIN ORAL SUSPENSION AND TABLET
Meals do not affect the absorption of the drug, which can therefore be taken at any time of the day. However, taking the drug at the beginning of a meal reduces the risk of intolerance.

Children's and Infant's oral suspensions are prepared by dissolving the powder with sufficient water so that the solution obtained reaches the line engraved on the bottle; the dose per dose is indicated on the plunger of the pipette graduated in kg, according to the child's weight. 3 doses per day are necessary

The contents of the sachet should be dissolved in a glass of water.

USUAL DOSAGE :
It is expressed as a quantity of amoxicillin and varies according to the indications. As an indication and for common infections:
Adult and child over 40 kg: 1 g of amoxicillin (i.e., 2 tablets at 500 mg/62.5 mg or 1 sachet at 1 g/125 mg), 2 or 3 times a day.

Infants and children under 40 kg: 80 mg of amoxicillin per kg per day, divided into 3 doses. For example, for a baby weighing 10 kg: 1 pipette of drinkable suspension for infants up to the 10 kg mark, 3 times a day. Do not exceed 3 g of amoxicillin per day.

ADVICE
The doctor sometimes prescribes a sample to identify the germ responsible for the infection and test its sensitivity to antibiotics. The result of this examination may be distorted if you have previously self-medicated: do not take or give antibiotics without medical advice.

Any fatigue is not due to the antibiotic, but to the infection itself.

Stools made liquid by this antibiotic do not generally justify any particular measure, except for young children wearing diapers, who may have skin irritation of the buttocks; ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

The reconstituted oral suspension in a bottle can be kept for one week in the refrigerator; it is best to shake it before each dose.

Common (1-10% of cases): diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, candidiasis.
