Dr. Neubauer’s pioneering work in the field of the treatment of brain injury and the experience of the Ocean Hyperbaric Neurologic Center (OHNC) are internationally renowned.  We treat patients from all over the world, many of whom were given little or no hope of recovery from traditional medical “experts”.

The Ocean Hyperbaric Neurologic Center (OHNC) was the first and original facility to specialize in the neurologic applications of hyperbaric oxygenation and the potentially recoverable brain, treating stroke, coma, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, anoxic encephalopathy and multiple sclerosis patients.  This was also the first center in the world to successfully treat mitochondrial disease(s) with hyperbaric oxygen. (Click here to read the chapter on mitochondrial cytopathies from Dr. Neubauer’s latest edition of his “best selling” book: Hyperbaric Oxygen for Cerebral Palsy and the Brain Injured Child, 2nd edition, available from Best Publishing).

Cumulative research from around the world confirms the results achieved at the Ocean Hyperbaric Neurologic Center and makes it is obvious that the future of hyperbaric oxygenation therapy will be in the field of neurology, neuroscience and neurorehabilitation.  In many countries, the medical profession is manipulated and controlled by the financial stronghold and political power of the pharmaceutical industry.  If the drug companies were ever able to create a pill or a drug with the ability to cross the blood brain barrier and saturate the cerebrospinal fluid with oxygen, even in the absence of appropriate blood flow, reactivate dormant, idling neurons (brain cells) and create new capillary (tiny blood vessels) growth, thus healing the brain, it would be considered one of the greatest advancements that medicine has ever seen.  Such a discovery would be worth billions of dollars a year to the manufacturer.

However, such a discovery already exists in the form of hyperbaric oxygen that would instead save billions of dollars, as well as to afford a quality of life to many patients for whom all hope was relinquished by the standard medical/pharmaceutical protocols. Hyperbaric oxygen is simply a more efficient delivery system for oxygen, the most crucial element to life on earth and every cell of the human brain and body.   Thus, the cost effectiveness of this approach to brain injury in both the adult and the child is phenomenal.

"Hyperbaric oxygen adhering to all the gas laws of physics delivers free molecular oxygen to the cells for immediate metabolic use without energy exchange, even with compromised circulation" -- Edward Teller PhD (Father of the Hydrogen Bomb)

The late Dr. Edward Teller (1908-2004), one of the great geniuses of our century, served as Director Emeritus of the Board of Advisors of the Ocean Hyperbaric Neurologic Center.

The Ocean Hyperbaric Neurologic Center currently operates 12 monoplace chambers.  These are a combination of the Vickers clamshell built by Rolls Royce and the Seachrist horizontal chambers. The reason monoplace chambers are used is that the dose (that is, the depth of pressure) may be individualized and titrated for the optimal treatment protocol for each patient.  This is not feasible in a multiplace chamber, which holds multiple patients, because the chamber must be pressurized to a single depth and thus, all patients receive the same dose of oxygen.

Our completely refurbished clamshell chambers are ideal to easily and comfortably accommodate an adult accompanying a young child during treatment.  Each chamber has it’s own television set, VCR and CD player with speakers into the chamber, so that the patient can relax, watch cable TV and movies or listen to music.
