Mitochondrial Disorder

Baby Mary came to the Neubauer Hyperbaric Neurologic Center when she was three years old weighing only 10 pounds. Mary suffers from a very rare form of Mitochondrial disease known as Cytochrome C Reductase. Mary had been hospitalized most of her life, had over 20 biopsies, was blind, g-tube dependent and was functioning at the age of a 6 month old. Mary’s parents brought her to see Dr. Neubauer with the hope that oxygen therapy could help Mary live a more functional life. After receiving Hyperbaric therapy Mary is a completely different child. We have asked the parents to tell you just how Hyperbarics has changed their daughter’s life.

“When we brought Mary to see Dr. Neubauer we were desperately seeking to save our daughter. All of our primary physicians were telling us that she was dying and that we needed to come to grips with letting her go. I heard of hyperbarics through a newsletter from moms united for moral support and I had already done research on my own and decided to give it a try. We were very nervous about pulling her out of the hospital against medical advice for fear that she would die but felt that she would die if we left her in the hospital. We began therapy with no promises but an open mind and I thank God everyday for giving me that open mind.

As of today Mary is living and her life is fuller than anyone ever dreamed it would be.

Mary is now 4 years old, is living seizure free, is off all mind altering drugs such as seizure medications, she is no longer blind, her G-tube was removed and she has learned to eat and chew on her own, she is getting off the furniture on her own and her vocabulary is increasing day by day. Mary is mobile and is learning how to walk as I write this testimonial.

I cannot thank Dr. Neubauer and his staff enough for what they have given to our family. Mary’s sister Laura now has a sister and Mary now knows that she has a sister and that is the greatest gift that a mom can receive. Two days before Mother’s Day my daughter Mary reached up to my face and said “Mama” for the very first time, a moment in time that I will remember forever, and that happened because of the hyperbaric therapy and dedication of her therapist. To them I owe my laughter, my joy and my beautiful little girl.
